A True Hollywood Ending!

April 11, 2012

Both artistic and super creative people, Jacqueline and Steve had a clear vision in mind for their big day: Old Hollywood Glam with the classic colour palette of red, black and gold. To set the mood for their Hollywood glam theme, the perfect venue had to be chosen and nothing could be more perfect than The Eglinton Grand in Toronto Ontario (Canada)– a movie theatre from the 1930’s that has since been converted into an event venue. The interior of The Eglinton grand is pure art deco, with red and gold details everywhere and eye-catching architecture that won over the couple at first sight.

On the day of, Jacqueline amped up the style with her stunning fit-and-flare dress while Steve looked very dapper in his Fred Astaire-inspired coat tails. The bridesmaids wore black satin dresses in styles that they individually chose, while the groomsmen were dressed in classic black tuxedos.
The bride’s bouquet was an elegant combination of white calla lilies with loops of cream ribbon, hand beaded crystals and wispy white feathers. The groom’s boutonniere was made to match, while the rest of the bridal party was seen with deep, rich, red roses – a classic touch!

When planning the décor, the couple had a vision of elegance and drama that would lend perfectly to the feel of their venue space. Black linens were accented with gold satin runners, red satin napkins and rhinestone studded napkin rings. The base of the centerpieces consisted of tall, gold, art deco inspired stands with strands of crystals hanging down all around it. The tops of the centerpieces were 2 different styles – one was a shimmering crystal covered ball, the other, a burst of white ostrich feathers reminiscent of the 20’s flapper style. To finish off the table setting, vintage film cameras made of chocolate and dusted in gold were placed at each place setting.
Jacqueline and Steve wanted stationary that not only reflected their red and black Hollywood theme, but that also showed some fun and creativity. Their art deco motif was established with their invites and carried through to their programs, seating chart, menus and favour tags. In place of traditional table numbers the couple incorporated names and pictures of old black-and-white movie stars (such as Greta Garbo and Charlton Heston) to direct guests to their tables.

Twinkling lights of the theatre marquee announced to guests the headline feature: “Jacqueline & Steve Star In Diamonds Are Forever”. When it was time for guests to move to the dining room, the theme from the movie of the same name played while curtains were drawn back for a dramatic and very Hollywood-esque reveal. After the bridal party entrance, the red carpet was rolled out on to the dance floor as Jacqueline and Steve took their place for their first dance. Guests then dined on a 4 course dinner followed by a art deco-inspired wedding cake and a late night dessert station.

It was a true Hollywood ending for this wonderful couple!

Diamonds are magical

April 9, 2012

By: Anna Lombardos

Let’s face it…diamonds really are a girl’s best friend. When thinking of diamonds such words as rare, mysterious, magical, and invaluable come to mind. These exquisite stones began their connection to love and weddings centuries ago when Archduke Maximilian gave one to his betrothed and placed it on the fourth finger (the ring finger) thought to connect to the heart. Its rich sentiment and alluring appeal has expanded through the ages. Selecting a diamond engagement ring has got to be one of the most exciting events that begins your plans of forever. There are so many shapes, styles and sizes to choose from. The important thing is that your ring defines you and speaks to the heart. Solitaires, clusters, whatever you choose to introduce your love story, get informed and stay inspired. Wear your diamond with love, feel the magic. Rings available at Bijoux Marsan

The brooch bouquet

March 26, 2012

The bridal bouquet, always a key ingredient on the wedding day, has a long and meaningful history. It’s a predominant accessory that beautifies and complements your wedding dress, adding a dash of colour to your walk down the aisle. This carefully chosen bouquet of flowers is not only pretty; it carries a long tradition of sentiment dating back to the days when garlands and herbs spelled ever-lasting love and happiness. Whimsical, fashionable, fun, and traditional—every flower, like every bride is different. As the ever-growing desire to personalize the wedding day continues to evolve, each element is more and more creative. The bridal bouquet has taken an exciting direction lately with the formation of the brooch bouquet. What renders this type of bouquet not only fun to make but also awe-inspiring? Their extraordinary appeal is rooted in the fact that each flower or pin is hand-picked. This type of bouquet is made entirely from accent pins, brooches, earrings, pendants, and other interesting accessories that you have either collected through the years. Meaning and sparkle, what else can you ask for? Photos by Rowell Photography
